Nostril Piercing

Nostril piercings are a very popular and particularly mainstream piercing that can easily suit people from virtually all walks of life given the huge variety of jewellery options available.   This piercing should only ever be done with a sterile, disposable specially designed piercing needle and NEVER with a piercing gun.  The initial jewellery can vary from a very small, subtle and unobtrusive nostril screw or stud, either jewelled or plain, as well as a ball or disk style, in addition to larger, bolder designs such as barbells or spikes.

Rings are not recommended at the start as they can irritate the piercing during the healing process by spinning or moving and thus pulling any dried organic matter or even bacteria through the fresh piercing, but are no problem after the healing process is complete.  The overall healing time for nostril piercings can range from six to twelve weeks on average with a small amount of localised swelling for the first one to two weeks.

There are several methods that can be used for cleaning this piercing, such as a mild saline solution applied to a cotton bud and gently wiping both inside and outside the piercing, making sure to remove any dried organic matter as well as making a sea salt solution using approximately one half teaspoon of the sea salt in a coffee sup of warm water and blowing bubbles for several minutes, then rinsing the piercing with warm water so no dry skin occurs.  Either method should be done twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.  Always be sure to wash your hands before cleaning any piercing.
